Olympic Airlines roots form a Greek Government airline merger back in 1951 due to finacial difficulties where the TAE GREEK NATIONAL Airlines was formed. Again that would not help much and well known Aristotle Onasis bought TAE to rename it to OLYMPIC AIRWAYS on April 6th, 1957.
This was "OA"s Golden Era as the Greeks remember it. It lasted until January 22nd 1973, when a series of personal incidences made Onasis sell all his shares to the greek government. The airline was bleeding finacialy all the way to September 29th 2009, when it was sold to Marfin Investment Group and renamed to Olympic Air.

This B737 under registration SX-BKD, named "AMFIPOLI" was delivered from Boeing to Olympic on the 16th of October 1991. To advertise and honour the Olympic Games of 2004 hosted in its home country, Athens Greece, Olympic airways had that special livery made for that period. The aircraft was stored at ATH in 2009 until Jan. 2011 when it was sold to AerSale Inc, transfered to Istanbul and then on to Bucharest for storage waiting for service.
